In the 1930’s my great uncle, Colonel Bert Lindvall and his pal General Leach purchased a large track of sheep grazing land on the north shore of Lake Shamineau. The intent was to create some simple dwellings available to families of soldiers while they trained at Camp Ripley. The area behind the main cabin is hilly with deep depressions like enormous pot holes. Walking in this area feels like time traveling; I am in the space where generations past, my grandparents came to enjoy nature, fishing, swimming and each other. This painting is a small portion of the hill with birches and sumac.
