Artist Statement
For nearly five decades, wildlife photography has been the foundation of my creative practice. Raised in northwest Iowa, I developed an early connection to open landscapes and the quiet presence of wildlife.
Since relocating to the Minnesota River Valley in 2021, my work has been shaped by the region’s rich bio-diversity and the dynamic interplay of light, terrain, and seasonal change.
My photographs are built on patience and close observation. I’m drawn to the subtle, often overlooked moments in the natural world—gestures, tensions, and interactions that reveal the character of a species or the spirit of a place. Rather than simply documenting wildlife, I aim to create images that evoke emotion and invite viewers to pause, reflect, and reconsider their relationship with the natural environment.
When a photograph resonates with someone—when it stirs wonder or prompts a deeper awareness—that connection is the true measure of success. Each image is both a record of a fleeting moment and an invitation to engage more fully with the landscapes and creatures we share our world with.
The Minnesota River Valley continues to challenge and inspire me, offering endless opportunities to explore and create. Through my work, I hope to honor the beauty of wildlife and encourage a renewed appreciation for the natural spaces that sustain it.
