Artist Statement
My series Dreams of Melting Ice, a reflection on the events of this past winter, engages Water’s phase change through sound, video, and cyanotype on fabric of ice melting. In Phase Change, my body appears as an anonymous mover revealing images of ice melting on Gichigammi, the sounds of which mix with my own vocalizations. As the video progresses, actual imagery of the lake blends with and gives way to the cyanotype images.
As an individual water-body, I reflect a fractal mirror of wider collective water-bodies. Invoking this reality in others, I perform as the voice of water calling the audience to connect with the water in their bodies and rise to protect Life.
